Today was a dreadful day.
Was on mc so as to attend an interview at MOE HQ at buona vista. Applied for Bachelor of Arts (Education) - 4-year course fully paid by MOE with monthly salary + 4-year bond.
Reached there 30 mins before my scheduled time at 2.30pm.
When I entered the interview room, I saw 3 interviewers. One female principal who shot me lots of questions, one senior male teacher and one human resource female personnel.
Just as I sat down, that female principal bombarded me with:
"I see that you studied biz admin. Why the total switch in your field of study?" I was stunned. This question was what derrick said they will most likely ask. So I answered by saying polytechnic is more practical. LOL. Saying of derrick, I almost rushed to his house to give him a tight slap for saying that I better don't teach cos I'm short and students will climb over my head easily. I got so hot! But what he said was true to a certain extent. Had this very short art teacher in sec 1 whom no one bothered to listen to him. I remembered being slapped by him for turning my classroom into a playground, running wild as we played police n thief, and he took a broom to chase after me and swept it at my legs.
Next question:
"Why do you want to teach?" WHY?? Cos I wanna teach communism. Haha just kidding. Even though I am very much into China's history, but I won't preach communism. So I answered by saying it's my passion? Yucks. I'm lying! Teaching is no longer my passion. Thinking of the long hours of work put me off. And teachers these days no longer have the respect that students used to give in the past.
So which subjects do you want to teach? I said geography and history.
The old lady asked me:
"What about English?" (I thought I said geog and hist?)
I replied: "No, my English only C5 in O level. Don't wanna risk my students' lives."
Den she said:
"But teaching geog and hist need english also."I said: "Well, I can communicate well in english, but just not teaching grammar, verbs etc."
Then she asked again:
"How about Chinese?"What the fuck! My Chinese is even worse off! I got only B3 through hard drilling work and memorising. I can't help in finding an answer, but just laughed off and said, "No, my interest is in geog and history." Initally I wanted to say my Chinese is worse than English.
The stupid HR personnel said
"But geog and hist are heavy subjects."I said because I am a determined person and since they are my interests, it will pose little difficulty. But in fact, I think I will suffer from mental breakdown if I take both subjects, just like how I totally cried while preparing them for 'o' levels. They were super duper heavy! Even when I slept I dreamt of the cold war, long march, hitler blah blah blah.
The HR gal asked another round:
"So secondary or primary track?"I said secondary because I want to teach geog and hist. But primary would be ok so long as I get to teach. (Sounded so desperate right?) LOL. I puked at my response internally. Internal bleeding soon.
The fat guy at last posed a question.
"So you are in the school committee as a monitor? What did you do."I said: "Oh, by maintaining discipline when the teacher is not in class. Outside class helped to organise school events." Earlier I almost blurted out a secret. That is, I don't really care whether my classmates are acting like monkeys or not when the teacher isn't around. Cos I don't wanna be condemned by my classmates.
He asked once more:
"How did you become a monitor?"I said: "Voted by classmates."
The old lady asked the last question.
"So what rank do you hold in ns?"I replied: "Corporal." I almost wanted to say "Corporal ONLY." Imagine if I added the word" only," it would portray myself as someone with very low self-esteem. =x
The whole interview lasted about fifteen minutes.
My gut-feel tells me I have flung the interview cos I wasn't confident enough and I did not feel passionate about it. Wasted my time.
