Day 10: 21/04/2008 - Tokyo to SIN

Last day of the trip. Since we had more than half a day to spend before catching a flight back to SIN, we headed out to Odaiba. While people usually spend a full day at Odaiba, we could only spend 3 hours there. Getting to Odaiba itself requires 45 mins.
Daiba, literally meaning "fort", refers to some of the man made islands in the Bay of Tokyo, which were constructed in the end of the Edo Period (1603-1868) for the city's protection against attacks from the sea. Odaiba is very futuristic in its design and is very popular for shopping and entertainment.

Rainbow Bridge, in which our monorail whizzed through it to get to Odaiba

On the monorail, across the Rainbow Bridge

This isn't a real ship; it's a maritime museum

Catch that ferris wheel - often filmed in Japanese love story

Palette Town - it's indeed a colourful town

Megaweb - drive a new model (Toyota) for about SGD4.00

Per ride SGD12.00

The wind was especially strong and the cabin was shaking; and thoughts of "What to do in case of typhoon?" struck me

Venus Fort - the design of the mall takes on a Venetian-style

I thought I was in Venetian Macau, if not First World Hotel in Genting Highlands

Bought collagen pills here, and this cashier was kind enough to advise us to purchase the next day if possible because the content will then increase by 10%; of course she spoke in Japanese and I ran over for help, keke

I realised there were so many pastries in Japan - all very expensive

I bought a pastry as well, and the packaging was so elaborate...

What's inside?

It's only a custard puff for SGD3.00 (see below)

Sushi once more; this was particularly nice - filled with mayonnaise

This tasted awful - Japanese natto 納豆

Throughout the trip, we saw many people in mask; were they sick?

But most probably because they are so concern about hygiene and afraid people will pass the virus to them that they were a mask for prevention. On a train we saw a mother and daughter covering their nose and mouth with their hands when a nearby child was coughing.

Oh and in a trendy Tokyo, even an elderly has to keep up with fashion. See that old woman's hair being dyed purple? Haha.

Here we are on our way to Narita Airport; whenever I saw that black carry-on bag, I got upset. I thought I bought a bag for a good deal at SGD26.00 from Shinjuku. When I returned to hotel and opened the packaging, it turned out to be a rain cover for a bag!

Train to the airport takes about 1.5 hours for about SGD15.00

My last dish in Japan - tempura udon for SGD12.50 at the airport; not delicious
